Time management is one of the biggest hurdles that get in the way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Plan your meals, plan your exercises, plan your social events, plan work, school, kids, etc. etc. Not only does planning help improve time management and increase productivity, it also helps keep you accountable for your goals. This is also great to keep track of your progress and learn things about yourself that you didn’t know before. Review each month to see where your strengths and weaknesses lie and adjust accordingly. At the end of the year, review the entire year as a whole to learn more about yourself. It’s a fun way to stay organized, decrease stress, and gather statistics on what works and doesn’t work. This information alone can help improve your lifestyle as it is evolving!

 

 

2. DOCUMENT YOUR PROGRESS

It is crucial to document your progress along the way. Take before and after pictures, and measurements too! While it’s important to have a baseline weight before you start working out, it’s even more important to measure yourself and take progress pictures. Inadequate sleep can leave you feeling groggy, unmotivated, exhausted, grumpy, and low energy. It can cause a whole plethora of health problems as well. According to the National Sleep Foundation (2016) the average adult should be getting between 7-9 hours of sleep a night. In a 2013 Gallup poll, it was discovered that 40% of Americans get less than the recommended amount of sleep per night. In my experience, when I get less than 7 hours of sleep I am less productive and more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors. 5. DON’T GIVE UP!

This is probably the most important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Never, ever give up. I say this because you can have a very productive, successful week and then the next week could be less successful. Why? Because we are humans with lives and things happening. Like I said before, this health and fitness journey is a lifelong one. Stick with it and even if you have a bad week it won’t affect your overall journey. Get yourself up, dust yourself off, forgive yourself for getting off track and get back on the horse! It’s not always easy at times, but remember why you’re doing what you’re doing and keep the momentum going!
